Tonkin gulf, where the economic activities are very effervescent, is one of the biggest bays in the world. Therefore, together the developing of economy is a pollution of water source and these can serious affect to bio-resources, biodiversity. With three investigations, from 11/2003 to 08/2004, have database about distribution of total mercury (HgT) in Tonkin gulf area to warm pollution.

In the first survey I (11/2003), there are 16 stations. Survey data show that concentration of total mercury in almost stations are lower than permitted limit of total mercury in coastal water for aquaculture according to Vietnam standard (TCVN-5945-1995) -5mg/l. However, there are some stations (stationT22- bottom layer, station T27- bottom layer, tr¹m T32- bottom layer)  are higher than permitted limit.
In the second survey II (4/2004) and the third survey III (8/2004), survey data show that concentration of total mercury in all stations are lower than permitted limit of mercury (TCVN-5945-1995) in many times.

Data in three surveys show that concentration of total mercury in surface layer is lower than that in bottom layer. According to time, concentration of total mercury is distributed lowly and hightly different from stations at nearshore or sations at farshore. Data show that concentration in sunny season is higher than concentration of total mercury in rainy season.
